What is Modere Trim?

Modere Trim is a supplement aimed at men and women who need help to lose weight. It differs from other weight-management supplements in a couple of ways.

The first thing that’s different is the content of the bottle. It doesn’t contain pills it’s provides a 30-day supply of liquid you take by the spoon.

The other big difference is, as well as helping with weight-loss, Modere Trim aims to replenish collagen levels and provide a “body transformation experience.”

In a nutshell, Trim is being marketed as a fat-burning anti-aging combo. 

The taste appears to be an issue. Many customers complain they don’t like it but there are four flavors to choose from:

Who Makes Modere Trim?

Modere is a company that produces health and wellness supplements. It also produces personal care products and various cleaning products to use in the home.

The company is based in Utah but operates worldwide. It used to mainly distribute its products via a network of multi-level marketing (MLM) distributors.

However, at the time of this review (updated on July 2021), the Modere website was not providing details of its MLM “business opportunity” so it’s possible it’s now concentrating on making direct sales via its website.

Modere is accredited with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and has been since November 2018.

At the time of this review, the Modere profile page at the BBB had a statement about a pending government action against the company.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) had sent Modera a warning letter about claims it was making.

All the claims appear on the site with a star beside them.

There is no explanation of what the stars indicate, but stars like this are generally accompanied by an explanation in the footer that states the claims are not approved by the FDA.

You take one (15 ml) tablespoon per day.

Anyone who has existing health problems or would need to use the product alongside medication will need to check with a doctor before giving this product the benefit of the doubt.

Needless to say, women who are pregnant or nursing a child would be best to get a doctor’s approval too.

Modere Trim Ingredient Profile

All of the active ingredients are housed in a proprietary blend. A quick look at the supplement facts reveals each serving provides around 4 grams or more of fat and 40-60 calories.

The chocolate option is the worst offender. Each spoonful will give you 4.5 grams of fat and 60 calories.

Ingredient Potential

The Modere Trim weight loss proprietary blend is one part Conjugated Linoleic acid (CLA) and one part Liquid BioCell, which is another proprietary blend.

So, were looking at a proprietary blend within a proprietary blend.

The problem here is, because Modere is using a proprietary blend, we have no idea what the proportions are. It could be a 50-50 mix of CLA and Liquid BioCell or it could be more of one than the other.

This makes it very hard to predict how the combination may work.

Any weight loss benefit will come from the CLA. If Modere Trim is mostly Liquid BioCell, it won’t offer much weight loss support at all.

However, bearing all this in mind, let’s take a look at the two main ingredients and the value they may offer on an individual basis.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)

CLA is a fatty acid you can get from eating meat and dairy products.

The CLA in supplements is generally extracted from safflower and safflower oil is specified on the supplement facts for Modere Trim.

A few studies involving animals suggest CLA is good for the heart and may enhance the immune system and prevent cancer. A lot of further investigation is needed.

Research regarding CLA’s value as a weight-loss aid is more convincing.

The individuals who took part in one study lost 4 pounds in weight and reduced their body fat by 7-9 percent. They also showed improvements in muscle mass.

Sounds good, doesn’t it? Here’s the Kicker: the study ran for a year. Four pounds a year! That’s hardly rapid weight loss.

Liquid BioCell

This is Modere’s own concoction. It sells it as a stand-alone product in various different versions.

Modere alleges the ingredient can support joint and muscle fitness and connective tissue health, while also counteracting skin photoaging, restoring youthful skin, and helping you to attain healthy hair, nails, gums, and eyes.

The above claim has one of those little stars beside it. The company appears to be very fond of them.

Liquid BioCell is a hydrolyzed chicken sternal cartilage extract that provides collagen peptides. Vegans and vegetarians need to be aware the ingredient is extracted from chicken carcasses.

Collagen is a protein. It’s present in the skin, ligaments, tendons, and connective tissues.

Science has identified 28 different types of collagen but type 2 is the form that’s prevalent in the body. That’s the form Liquid BioCell provides.

However, the human body can manufacture collagen so there are arguments that supplementation is not necessary.

The value of collagen supplements is often disputed. Further study is necessary but some studies suggest such supplements may improve skin strength and structure.

There is also limited evidence to suggest collagen supplements may help with joint and bone health, and possibly provide improvements in muscle mass too.

The main consideration is the proportions. Studies suggest a 5-gram dose is required to support bone health.

Each spoon of Modere Trim provides 5 grams of the proprietary blend but it’s partly CLA.

Studies suggest a 15-gram dose may be necessary to aid muscle growth. So the product does not provide enough.

So the big question is does Modere Trim work? Can help you lose body fat?

It’s possible Modere Trim may help you to lose a few extra pounds a year if you use it alongside a strict diet and exercise.

However, it’s grossly over-priced. The lack of a guarantee is also a problem.

If the product only cost $20 a bottle, it may be worth a punt but investing a $100 in a product of this nature may not be a smart move. 

Although a liquid like this could be a good option for people who find it hard to swallow pills, the taste appears to be a big issue for many people.

With pills, the taste is rarely a problem. You just wash them down with water. If you don’t like the taste of Modere Trim it may hang around in your mouth for a while.

Any weight-loss benefits will be due to CLA. You can buy CLA capsules at any good pharmacy for a fraction of the price.

So, if you are attracted to this product for the weight-loss claims, you could probably get similar results by using capsules instead.

As for the claims made for collagen, the ingredient requires further study. However, it’s possible to buy a bottle of collagen capsules for less than $10.

All in all, it’s hard to see anything special enough about Modere Trim to justify the high price.
