Summary
I am interested in water as a participant in the process of protein folding, and what happens to the aqueous solvent for the folding reaction 1) when folding takes place under confinement on the nanoscale. Such scenarios arise frequently in vivo (in chaperonins, the ribosome exit tunnel etc) and are therefore of significant basic and practical interest. 2) in the presence of cosolvents (such as denaturants) or crowding agents that are known to affect folding by mechanisms that are currently somewhat unclear.
